Coronelli Antique Desk Globe

Vincenzo Coronelli was born in Venice in 1650. After achieving a doctorate in theology he began working as a geographer and was commissioned to make a set of terrestrial and celestial globes for the duke of Parma. These globes were a massive 5 feet or 175cm in diameter. These were so impressive that Coronelli was employed to make globes for King Louis XIV of France among many others. From him this desk globe takes its name.

The map is very detailed with major cities, rivers, seas and mountains all included. This globe is one of very few that feature the countries of the world in their own languages as well as in English. The globe ball itself is 13" (33cm) in diameter which is a noticeable size increase compared to 12" models.

The wooden stand is made from solid walnut and is very heavy in comparison to most desk globes. It is wide enough for the globe to be very stable. The aluminium meridian is substantial, sturdy and has a high quality finish.

Manufactured in Italy by a 3rd generation family business this globe merges style, tradition and detail to create a lovely product.
